MEET Samuel (Tensor)
Samuel, who uses the artist name Tensor, is a fine line tattoo artist at IGLÀ Tattoo Studio in Midtown Manhattan, NYC. His approach brings together detailed artwork and an interest in how a design fits the body.
Originally from Venezuela, he studied physics before building his tattoo career. Ideas about symmetry, measurement, and proportions continue to shape his work, alongside creative influences that include ceramics, abstract painting, music, and cinema.
Artist story
Specialization
Samuel’s work includes fine line, microrealism, minimalist tattoos, and delicate illustration. He enjoys detailed pieces and considers how the design’s proportions relate to its size and position on the body. His physics background informs that process, particularly his use of measurement and symmetry when adapting an idea.
For a custom illustrative tattoo, his creative influences extend beyond drawing to ceramics, abstract painting, music, and cinema. Color is discussed individually for each design. The approach depends on the piece rather than an assumption that every idea should be treated the same way.

Why “Tensor”?
Tensor comes from my time studying physics in Venezuela. I didn’t finish that degree, but I kept an interest in symmetry, measurement, and the relationships between different elements. The name is a reminder of that part of my education, which still influences how I think about a tattoo.
When I adapt a design to the body, I consider its proportions, its size, and how the elements work together. Those decisions are part of making the artwork fit the person. Physics gave me another way to look at a design, and I wanted my artist name to reflect that.

How we start
Samuel approaches a custom tattoo by considering the individual client and the design together. He adapts the artwork to the body, using proportions and size to guide that process. The consultation gives clients a chance to explain their idea and raise questions about the piece. Requests for color are discussed individually, so that decision depends on the proposed design and Samuel’s assessment.
